My 47 Cadillac has a 53 Hydra. Im leaking oil, and quite a bit when left standing. Question is how to read the dipstick. Should the car be idling,or at rest. How do I know when the trans is full? And, if full and leaking, what is the likely culprit.
Thanks
Larry

Remove the bottom flywheel cover-place a large piece of carboard on the floor under the flywheel-jack up the rear end so the tires dont touch the ground-fire the engine up then drop the tranny into drive and rev the engine. If you see a large spray pattern on the cardboard, you have a problem in the torus/flywheel area.
