Trunk Lock

 I have a 79 Seville and a 75 Eldorado with unlockable trunks. The key (in both cars) will turn to about 2 oclock then stop. I need solutions. Even radical options.

A good Locksmith comes to mind.

I looked in the manual for both cars. The bad news is that all maintenance is done with the lid open. A locksmith would be your best bet, unless someone has had this experience and solved it.

Heres how you can get the trunk open. Get about a four foot long piece of 1/2 inch square steel stock. Take the back seat out of the car. Put the right size of 1/2 inch drive socket on the end of the 1/2 inch bar, and then you can reach and remove the trunk lock bolts from inside the car. You can turn the bar with an adjustable wrench. Ive done this a few times in bone yards when the place doesnt have keys for the car and I want to explore what might be in the trunk. You may still have to take the locks to a locksmith to get them fixed, but at least it should be less than having him pick the lock.

Dr Dave, your post implys that you have the correct keys for the trunk-locks.
If true, try to lubicate the locks piror to any radical treamentment.
WD40 will have a small "spray-straw" that will fit into the key-slot.
Give it a good shot of WD and wait about 30 seconds and turn the key as far as it will freely turn. (dont use force).
After about 2-3 tries, it should open.

Push down on the trunk lid too ,it will relieve some of the pressure on the latch mechanism. FWIW

If need be you can use Lynns excellent procedure.
