A fellow CLC member and I had a discussion this evening about electrical power surges with his 1970 Eldorado.  He mentioned he replaced the battery and generator, and the problem is still present.  Is it possible the new generator is defective?

The problem sounds like a bad ground. Insure connections and cables are good... check small body grounds. There should also be a large ground from the starter mount to the frame.

By 70 he should be using an alternator. Test/replace the voltage regulator if external. Cheaper & easier to return and replace alternator if it is internal.
