Robert Bothwell CLC #20850

Hello!
I am really confused about the correct part numbers for the front shocks on a 1940 60s. If I were to look for replacements, would I look for the matching group numbers, 1946H and 1946G?
Did Cadillac change actual part numbers each year? (since different part numbers belong to the same group number, for instance).
I know they changed the front end suspension design on the 60s between 1939 and 1940, thus a different group number is logical.
Then they used the same group numbers from 1940 through 1949, even though the part numbers varied each year.
On Ebay, a right shock was listed as a group 1947C, which is not even listed in my Parts Manual. Would that mean it was for another G.M. make?
 Thanks for any enlightenment.
