"Don't know if this will work, never tried to post a pic before."

You did just fine ...... the picture came through beautifully ....... and it reminds me of a time in Florida (I'm guessing the picture was taken in Florida) when everything was just like a dream come true ....... beautiful weather, palm trees, and a new Cadillac sitting in the drive of your post-war modern home.

Jack, You're correct. It's Bal Harbour, Florida, the house was built in '49 and that's my late father out front.

Boy, the Governor of Montana must have an awfully big Garage to keep them all in.

Hope I'm not boring everyone with these old pictures. I'm so happy to still have them, and the ability to scan 35mm slides. This is dad's 53 convertible in Virginia Beach in 1954. Traded it the year I was born on a 55 convertible. Pics of that one coming soon! Barry

Barry, how could this be boring anyone,it is showing the real "history" of Cadillacs in their real environment of 1950's USA when "Cadillac" really was the King of the Road. Here's a '57 convetible cruising the streets of Beverley MA.

I am enjoying this thread. Here's a photo of the '53 sedan my step-grandfather had while he was living/working in Ohio in the early '60s. He sold it when he was transferred back to Australia. We used to talk about the many cars that he had owned and he always had fond memories of this one. It's a part of what got me interested in Cadillacs.

Hello Barry,

You are a humble guy, you have not related that your farther drove a Cadillac convertible.  I love these old pictures.  Tell us about your sporting father.  I know you have a retail backgroud, but what did your sporting father do to afford a high priced Cadillac ?  Did you always enjoy a Cadillac as your family car?  You are an interesting car guy.

Your friend,

Thanks for your kind remarks, and I'm glad you enjoy these pics! My father was in the radio
station and advertising business. He was born in '21  his first car was
a used Airflow Chrysler. He had a deal with the owner of the local
Cadillac agency to buy his demos . This started in '53 with the blue
convertible. Then he traded for a '54 Olds with factory air. In '55
when I came along (an only child ) he bought a white '55 cadillac
convert. Traded the Olds in in '56 on a '56 Sedan de Ville as mom
wasn't much for converts ! Then, in '57, he decided that he had to
have a '57 T-Bird, so away went my moms '56. They both hated the Bird,
so when it was 6 months old, it was traded for the '57 convert. It was
the best one, as it had factory air. I still remember how we would get
strange looks driving a convertible in 95 degree heat with the windows
up ! That ac was the coldest I have yet to find ! In 1960, dad was hit
on the right side bt a drunk driving a stolen '51 chevy. The beautiful
57 was history,as would anyone who had the misfortune of riding in the
right front seat !  He also flew airplanes, and as far as I can
remember, always had seatbelts installed. He survived without a
scratch, but the impact sheares the top locking handles from the
windshield. He never felt safe in a convertible for a long time. He
replaced the 57 with a '60 Fleetwood that the Cad dealer had. It was
ordered without the vinyl top. We also had a '59 Ford Skyliner for
many years. I was more of a Lincoln fan-was first introduced to junky
56-60 converts around town. Talked him into buying a '67 Continental 4
door convert which was an absolute disaster of a car. His last convert
was a 1973 Grandville.  My mother was always embarrassed by the
ostentatious cars he had. Said she wanted a car with an off/on switch.
I always thought they were cool, and am fortunate to have had them and
the pics that remain ! Hope this didn't bore you to tears ! Barry

I was wondering what that Imperial was doing among all those Cadillacs and then it occurred to me: it was representing its market share.

Big Fins

I just looked at this thread for the first time. How could anyone say that it was boring.

Speaking for just myself, I was facinated, and remember a lot of the places in Florida, these shots were taken.
