Title: 1947 modification
Post by: Paul Tesone on December 27, 2014, 10:47:54 AM
I'm not personally into having cars modified during their restoration , but this is for those of you who are . In attempting to change the image size of my picture so it would post properly in the Forum , I accidently put incorrect proportions into the computer and ended up with the stretch version of my car seen in photo #2 . I must admit that I think it looks sleeker and faster in the stretch version . .. Paul Tesone CLC # 6876

Hi Steve - IF ONLY IT WERE THAT EASY. The garage you are looking at is a typical two car garage with a room off to the side . A number of years ago, I wanted to double the size by adding a mirror image structure but not have a wall between the new car section and the new room . I figured not only would it look good , but without a wall ,  I could slide a car into the room section . That would give me space for five cars . The town wouldn't let me , stating that the town bylaws allowed for only " three parked vehicles " in a garage . I appealed to the zoning board with the arguement that I had met the land requirements and the town was assuming that I planned to use the space for cars . Perhaps I would use the space to store a boat during the winter . My appeal was denied , but they did say I could build the structure if I made the new door half stationary and the other half functional . I took the town to court and won- the judgement being that the town couldn't tell me what kind of door  to use . They could however fine me on a daily basis if an inspection found more than three cars in the garage . It was a hollow victory , because  to build the garage the way I wanted to would have been too expensive  . So I ended up buying a nearby single family house with an oversized four car garage , converted the house to a two family rental and used that garage for my myself .  Happy New Year . ....Paul Tesone CLC #6876

Wow, I didn't know you guys had that kind of bureaucracy too?  They use the land mass here sometimes to determine what size outbuilding you can build, thats why I bought a redundant farm 30 years ago.  Problem now is the whole place is too much for us as the kids have flown but I still need the buildings. Whenever we find a house now of the perfect size the garages wouldn't be allowed because it doesn't have a large enough plot  :(

Merry Christmas Paul, don't you know the Detroit advertising art departments and the New York  fashion art departments have been using the same trick for years. Detroit goes horizontally and New York goes vertically.

As for your bureaucracy gone mad. That is just ridiculous. I'm sure those same law makers have no problem doubling their entitlements and extending their leave whenever they can. I'm surprised they allowed you to split a house. Potentially you could "park"a dozen people in their now.
Wet and miserable here and my brother is storing the 46.at his place . . And wants it out. . .got any spare carspaces at your place?
