Hello,

Can anyone share what the color of the driveshaft was in 1960 for a series 62? I have seen both black and silver.

I was also wondering if anyone knows the markings and location on the driveshaft. It looked like my driveshaft had a stripe about 1"wide but I could not tell the color as I was stripping it as it was under a previous repaint.

thank you for all your assistance,
Cheers,
John Miller

Was it painted from the factory? I know that later GM vehicles had raw drive shaft. After they arrived in Europe, they were red with rust. Customer were not especially happy. Recently, there was a recall for a vehicle. there were two part numbers: one for domestic cars, not painted, and one for export vehicles, which was painted.

Has no one restored a drive shaft for a 1960 Cadillac in this forum? No originals either?

Surprising to not hear any information on this topic.

All mine have been black.  Could have been from the factory or grease over the decades.  When I pulled my 57 shaft I decided to Simple Green it and it was still black.  Dunno if that helps?

All I found so far. The single marking I had on the 1960 was at the center of the front driveshaft. It measured approximately 1.5" wide and wrapped around the driveshaft. It could have been light blue but faded with rust to yellow.

Thought this may help someone but had hoped to verify. I prefer to restore to factory specs when possible.
