Jim,
You can get a copy of the 1938 V-16 owners manual online from the GM Heritage Center at this link:

HTH,

What size are the lens you need? There are different numbers for different years and series. I have 37/38 small series reflectors and sub-bodies for 7" lens and 39 reflectors and lens which are larger.
Jim,
I may have the lighter. Please send me a pic at bobscads@comcast.net.
Thanks, Bob
The only really hard part to find on your list is the V-16 generator. If you want to keep the stock 38 unit it has a flat pulley that runs on the inside of a rubber lined bigger pulley. This wasn't one of Cadillac's better ideas and they switched in 39 (maybe late 38's) to a typical belt drive but it still has a unique front mount and rear cover. If you have anything it is best to rebuild. The headlight lens have great interchange so they regularly are on eBay. A NOS set just sold for $52. The part numbers on the lens are 920426 (R) and 920425 (L). Other headlight parts cross all 38's including LaSalle. Door lock knobs from Steele. If you want an original 38 V-16 owner's manual I have an extra. brad@ipsengarage.com
One has to be a little careful buying the headlight lens as they were smaller 7" in 1936 and 1937 moving up to about 7 1/2" for 38. I have seen many advertised as fitting 36 through 40 but they do not! The other problem is on checking all my lens I can find no numbers on any of them.
My spares have the numbers on them. They are very faint. They are on the surface that touches the gasket at about 2 o'clock. Top being noon looking at the car from the front.
Thanks Brad. I'll give them another check.
:) Thanks everyone for your advise and replies. I will send a PM to each of you in regards to the parts you may have. Kindest regards. Jim
ps. this car does not have sidemounts, just a spare in the trunk.
Does anyone make the plastic center piece for the dash?
Also, was the generator the same for a V8?

Bruce Berghoff used to make these 38 dash centres but they are very complex consisting of many different parts and cast in alloy rather than the terrible plastic used in 38. All the 38s suffer the same fate. Be prepared for deep pockets as they take a huge amount of man hours to make and assemble.
From what Brad said the brackets on the generator are different than on the V8.
The V-16 generator has ball bearings on both ends and the fan is at the rear so all of those pieces are different. The armature shaft sticks out at both ends so it is different. The field coils and center case may interchange with others but that is it. For some more detailed suggestions email me, brad@ipsengarage.com
:(As we try to get the car started, we found out that we need another starter, the one on the car has been welded poorly from a repair long ago and it was shimmed up poorly, hence it chewed up the ring gear. So, we are also looking for a starter, ring gear, or fly wheel. We are going through the brakes as we speak. Thanks, Jim
Did you ever find a starter or generator? I'm looking for those items too so let me know if you found more than one or if you know of some kind of work-around.
