While installing a complete new brake system on my 61 series, I found that someone had made a fairly unsafe repair on the right front spindle. The bottom of the spindle is shaved and gouged as if the car had lost a wheel while in motion and dropped to the ground? Very unusual pattern on the lower side of the spindle. THEN, to make things worse, instead of replacing the spindle because the threads were compromised and missing on the bottom 1/3, they installed a collar with a set screw! WOW.....depending on a set screw to keep a wheel on a steer tire at 60 mph! I have threaded the spindle to a 3/4-10 to be able to hold a castle nut and cotter pin, however, I would really like to just find another good used spindle if someone has one available?
Thanks for reading, Curtis
Should be able to help on this but will have to check to make sure I have a 1940 one with the smaller king pin size which matches the 1939. Mid year change. Email be directly at brad@ipsengarage.com
