Hey There,
Still trying to learn about the 1958 Cadilac.
Some say it was a "one year" car and other places say it was a "Modified 1957".
So what really changed between the 57 and 58?
What parts were the same?
Any of the more experienced ones who have gone this road before PLEASE chime in.
THANKS!!!
Bill
2 things, on the Eldorados, 57 2 4's, 58, tri power. 58 all, dual headlites. Sure there are more things.
It would help us give you better information if you could
tell which model, body style, etc. Cadillac you are working
on.

First, get on line and simply type in 1957 Cadillac and then 1958 Cadillac. Read the print and check out the pictures. GM was in a two year cycle of body shells. That is the basic structure for each auto. The trick was to use as many non-noticeable parts as possible to save $$$ and use new dies to make the outside look as different as possible from the last year. Their designers were masters of this procedure, which basically started in 1936 using A, B, and C bodies for the various lines of cars they produced. Enjoy.
Seems I remember the '57 gas tank was one year only --- FWIW
Bill,
Check out this link at the Heritage Center:
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits/Cadillac/1958_Cadillac_VVI.pdf
There are 446 pages! Of course there is a similar item for 1957 models. You can download them at no cost -- PDF files.
Good luck!

I read the Heritage Center Vehicle Pack and it is super helpful. The "New Features" section that tells the sales people the new mechanics and details is most valuable.
Often times someone who has been in the game a long time can do a very good summary.
Anyhoo...any books or other information you can share/ lead me to will be most helpful/
Spend a few bucks and get a CLC authenticity manual for 57-58.
1958 was a body face lift however there were major changes. Single to dual headlights. Rear leaf springs to coil springs and a host of other things. See attachments:
