I need to do some painting in my engine compartment of my 64 Cadillac, firewall, inner fender liner and radiator support, what is the correct looking sheen? Semi gloss, low gloss? What brands? Looking to do it by rattle can
What are your ideas?

Cole,
Hi. If you're definitely going to Rattle can it, look into the Eastwood line of products.

Yes, I use Eastwood "under-hood black" for my 1970 Cadillacs.  You can also use one of their semi gloss clear coats to protect it further.  This is a generic and it works for Cadillac, never has a judge dinged me for wrong shade of black at any show under the hood.

You have to be very careful that you let each coat dry thoroughly or it will alligator on you.  Best way to avoid it is paint a few scraps of metal too and always test on scrap before spraying the car.  Takes a sand down to almost bare metal to remove alligator paint.

Rustoleum #7777 Semi-gloss black will also work if you want to use an OTC product.

I read somewhere that the 'factory' name for the under hood black was EGGSHELL black. . . .  ???
This name/description(?) was found in some internal engineering documents.

Certainly not a name I have ever seen on a spray can.
'Semi-gloss' works for me  ;)
