Title: 1976 500ci Cadillac
Post by: 1976Deville on June 23, 2017, 08:04:11 PM
First of all, thanks to anyone who takes the time to sort through this.
I have tried to get all the vacuum installed to the original diagram from 1976. (not 1975 or 1977).
I own this 1976 Cadillac Deville sense 1987. The car has now 560000 miles with the original engine and transmission never rebuild. I never had any trouble in all the years only small stuff, but over years five off the exhaust manifold bolds brook. So I had to remove the cylinder heads from the block.
Now I have a couple of questions.
First: does anybody have a 1976 Cadillac Deville vacuum line diagram?
Second: is there a replacing part for the ThermoVacuum Switch? (see Picture )
Third: On the ThermoVacuum Switch, what das the letters mean?
Carb = Carburetor
EGR = EGR Valve
HV = ??????
M = ??????
HRD = ?????
One was the smog pump. (I removed the smoke pump )
I do not live in the USA, so to get information for the Cadillac is not so easy.
Thanks Herbert

Herbert , I absolutely must ask :did you say 560,000 (!!!!) miles ? By the way , I love the black wall tires ! What make are the tires ? And do you have the factory shop manual ? They used to be easy to find here. I think one of the guys might have an extra one.   - Carl

What's the story with the roof?

Yes the car has 560000 miles. I used to have white wall tires on the car. But Good Year and Michelin stop making them. I do not buy made in China. These are Good Year tires.
The story of the roof is, I removed the vinyl 20 years ago. One of the biggest rust problems of these Cadillac's is rust under the vinyl. I have a 1975 factory shop manual, but it looks like the 76 is different

What I find puzzling is it has the roofline like a '74.

1975 & 1976 Sedan deVille are the 6 window style roof (with fixed window in rear sail panel).

Herbert,
There are a few differences between 75 and 6 and many of them are in the vacuum circuits and routing.  By all means get the correct factory service manual. It is irreplaceable.  If you cannot find the thermal switch you are looking for pm me. I do believe I have an NOS one.
What it appears you have is a "California" car (with the 5 port TVS valve.  It functions to operate both the distributor advance and the EGR system. "M" is for (intake) manifold for direct vacuum.

I had to close the rear small window. The roofline always cracked by the small pillars. But I still have all the original parts, so easy to return to the original style. Your car looks like my car , when I bought the car. Phoenician Ivory
And yes the car is from California.
I search Ebay all the time for a factory service manual. Never see one. Only Eldorado and 75 Deville
Thanks for the info on the EGR Valve
So what connects to  HRD?
Thanks again
Herbert

 ???  Cadillac Shop Manuals are easy to find on eBay --- here's a great deal on one claimed to have never been used.  All Cadillac models except Seville.  Grab it!

I would get this one at the same time ---

If you like, send me the money and I will buy it and ship it to you --- or, buy it and have it shipped to me and I will ship it to you.  Did this for a fellow in Italy once, not that big of a deal.  If you would like to do this, click on the "35-709" in the upper left of this post and send me a Private Message with your location.

OR -
There are others I saw on eBay, I would say many/most don't mind shipping outside the U.S.

Driving a car that many miles WITHOUT a service manual must be some
kind of record; I usually get a complete set as soon as a car arrives.  This
is the right place; someone will take care of the shipping issues.  Use PayP*l
to work out expenses.  I shipped a copy of that book to Germany last year.

Its a Cadillac. This is how a Cadillac should be  ;D  .Never had any trouble except Water pump Carb rebuild 2 times and a broken bolt. So I never needed a book.  I always did the oil change and always bought diesel oil.
I am the second owner. I bought the car in the 80's in San Diego. The car had then 200000 miles on it

That must be a Shangrila for cars; water pumps, alternators, brakes,
and a long list of lessor things fail here on a predictable schedule.
