Title: Cadillac novice with an air filter question
Post by: jd2502 on April 11, 2024, 10:10:00 PM
I have a 1975 ElDorado convertible that I just did a refresh on and was wondering what the small loaf of bread sized Cylinder is attached directly to the air filter (attaching on the other end to an intake hose). Assumed it had something to do with emissions but not sure).

Note of coolness: Bought the car in 1993 out of a barn in OH. Sitting next to it was the actual car from Brubaker!

Thanks for the education

Its a muffler / silencer.  Takes away the cool woosh sound of the Quadrajet.  I think 75 was the only year for it.  I don't think it hurts performance just makes some things harder to work on.

I remember when back in the day, we would flip the top covers over to really hear the Q-Jet roar.  8)

Does anyone know why this ended up being a one year item?   Was it something to do with the addition of the cat converter that year?  Did the cat reduce the exhaust noise so they thought the intake sound would become a problem?
