Another public service announcement.  I know there are a lot of us that don't intend to get caught in the rain but and probably for the most part have the right combo of luck and research that we don't but it can happen so you want to be ready for it.

Its not just the wipers working so you can see where you are going but you also don't want to damage the glass especially since the vast majority of our glass likely falls somewhere between really expensive and unobtanium.

First inspect them to make sure the rubber is still in reasonable condition and the metal is no where near being able to contact the glass.  IF you are not washing the whole car hit it with some glass cleaner to give it some lubrication and see if and how well they work.

Another little tidbit with wipers is to occasionally lift the wiper blades clear of the glass to make sure that they haven't become stuck from lack of use.

Plus, every time you wash the car, or even fill it up at the Gas Station, grab a piece of paper toweling from the dispenser and physically drag the paper along the length of the blades.   You will be shocked at the amount of black stuff that comes off.

Plus, the blades will wipe better without chirping.
