On the side you don't show there, it should have a small locking tab that you press before you pull out on the connector. It might be broken off, so it's not visible, but it could just be rusted in place too. Not all of those style connectors have a locking tab.

PS: here's a picture of what it looks like. I was thinking it has just one tab on the bottom,  but it actually has two,  one on either side. If those are broken off, you may need to pry it out if no other way works.

Good,  glad it worked out for you. They put those tabs on so that the connector doesn't work itself out from all the vibrating the door gets.
