Title: Help tracking down my 1956 Sevilles roots
Post by: JacksCaddy on April 05, 2024, 07:05:33 PM
Hi All,
My names is Jack, I've just purchased a 1956 cadillac eldorado seville. There was zero documentation with the car. I have a title that shows the car in oregon from 7/8/16 to 2/16/24 when it went to minn. where I bought it. I've sent a title search request to the oregon dmv but they block out the names etc of any prior owners but at least I'll know the state it came from. Trying to fill in the blanks,, any help is appreciated.
Thanks Jack

Nice car! You will have to switch the hood ornaments: they must be perfectly vertical; the one to the right is to install on the left and vice-versa.
Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question.

Congratulations, beautiful Cadillac. Mostly original with the exception of seat belts. Whomever owned that car from new for the majority of it's life babied it to an exceptional point. I guarantee the original owner kept all the paperwork for and with it. Unfortunately you don't have that name. The only thing that would give a clue to where it was delivered to new would be the build sheet that you can send for and there are folks here that once you have that can assist. Again, welcome.

Suggest you reach out to the Pacific Northwest Region of the Cadillac & LaSalle Club.  Perhaps they can provide information on previous owners.  https://cadillaclasalleclub.org/regions-chapters-affiliates/

Ask on the Oregon Car Cruise FB page:  https://www.facebook.com/oregoncarculture/

Post on Oregon are cruise newsletters, magazines or forums:   https://www.nwcam.com/CruiseNews.html

Search for other Oregon area vintage car social media and inquire there; appears to be lots of them.

Contacting car clubs in Oregon is a very good suggestion. I researched the history of my 1940 Lasalle that came from St. Louis. The CLC members in St. Louis remembered my car and came through for me.
Do be persistent.
Don't be shy.

The brake booster and master cylinder have been replaced with a newer design and mounted in a different location. The original unit was located above the left upper control arm and sat just behind the core support between the autronic eye control box and the engine. It was a TreadleVac unit with a single master cylinder instead of the dual master on it now.
But the drum brakes are not upgraded yet. To use disc brakes the wheels would have to be replaced.

WOW Jack you got a nice one there! Interior appears extremely authentic and very nice!!! a high quality Jenkins interior?
Factory AC too! The vio deck top appears original, or well done replacement. Nice chrome! I have had 2 sevilles, the mufflers appear original!

Agreed on the brake conversion but the tredlevac was not ideal, generally very expensive to rebuild them today .  Now you have dual system brake improvement . The firewall should be body color

You could start with getting the factory build sheet?

Thanks you all for your suggestions and in pointing out non-stock issues with the car. I had no idea the hood ornament was reversed lol. I'm sure the car has been repainted somewhere along the line and the chrome seems to be original and in great shape. The tires are 24 years old with tread that looks brand new. Either they were put on recently as replacements or they were put on 24 years ago and hardly used. The odometer shows 73,456 but doesn't work,,, does that mean all the mileage was put on before these tires were put on the car? we'll see.

I will follow up on all your suggestions,, thanks again. I will report back.
Jack

The vinyl roof material is also different than the vicodec covering installed originally.

Yes, after blowing up the image I can it is indeed NOT vicodec. Vicodec was essential Convertible top vinyl, or pin point vinyl it's called as well.

Congratulations. Very pretty car.

My car had been sitting since the 90's with brand new tires on it. They still had the little rubber whatevers on them. However, they were out of round.
No way to know if those tires had been on the car that long, or were just on a shelf for that long. So, if it doesn't drive smoothly, I'd bet they are out of round so plan to replace them.
And, most importantly, have fun with it!!

This car was on Facebook Marketplace for about 10 hours and was in California, I won't tell you what Druk bought it for. I believe the previous owner had it for quite some time. But I don't remember his name. Nice car congrats !

To marty55cdv- The title from Druk shows the prior owner as K.E. from Oregon and owned the car from 7/8/2016 thru 2/16/24 when it was sold to Druk. I've tried to contact him but either the contact info is wrong or he's not interested in talking about the car. I'm still on the case.

After the mechanic had a chance to look at the car here's the results- brakes are new, steering box is new, the rest of the suspension is original (shocks, springs etc) and will be replaced. The motor and trans appear to have been refreshed/rebuilt ? and run like new. Regardless of what Druk paid I'm happy with the deal I got even though the car needs some attention.

It looked like a great car and I was waiting for my bank to open to arrange the funds for transfer, I had contacted the facebook seller for a picture of the data plate he replied to me sold on 4-13 ,  I have sent you a Private message.
