Car sold at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale in 2020 for $302,500 (incl buyer's fee), then again earlier this year at Mecum Indy 2023 for $429,000 (incl buyer's fee). So at least one guy made a nice chunk on it. The same can't be said for the guy who spent over $2M on it who I believe passed away before he could see his car win the Ridler award in 2019.

If I ever took a $2M hit on a car that I had $2.3M in, I think I would have done the same thing.   Oh, but he (or more accurately, his estate) did win the $10,000 Ridler prize.

Thats a lesson for anyone restoring and customizing a Caddy to above concours condition.
Me especially.

But a $2M hit? Wow.
There's a lesson here somewhere...

Well, all I can add is what a waste of two different vehicles.   Plus, one would think that for the money, they could get the front bumper bar correctly positioned.

The big winner is the shop that milked 2.3 million out of the owner over 15 years. Don't know how old the owner was but he died before the car was done. Sounds like they were taking advantage of an old man.

Here's the obituary of the man who commissioned the car. It would appear he was well aware of what he was getting into.

Clay I mean it would truly be an awful problem to have.  My wallet burnt up between reading that and the next order of parts for the 59.

Round 3 in as many years for "Cadmad" - $325,000 no-sale.

*It's ironic how Mecum refers to no-sales as "The Bid Goes On..." when the reason for a no-sale is that the bidding didn't go on long enough.

Eric. Mecum has guys and gals that go to the seller to get the bottom line and the top couple of bidders to get their top line and try to negotiate a deal after the bidding stops especially on the high value cars. I fact on the six and seven digit cars that don't sell on the block sometimes Mecum will negotiate fees if it is a sticking point. Not on the run of the mill condo cars, however you can go to the office and make an offer on any unsold car and they will contact the seller to see if the seller will accept or if the seller wants to meet the buyer to hash out a deal.
