Title: Inline thermostat
Post by: tturley on November 06, 2017, 11:22:04 PM
Has anyone ever used an inline thermostat on a flathead when they have disabled the shutter system?
If so what did you use and on which hos.

If you could find something to use in line, you would have to fit one to both hoses.  Can't say I have ever seen a thermostat made to fit inside those small hoses.
Thermostats have to fit into a housing. I suppose you could bolt two housings together on each hose but that would look crap and would have no by-pass hose for cold starting.  Later cars used a by-pass hose from the pump to the left-hand head.

Over here in Germany, many such inline thermostats are still available. Even with the bypass connection for cold starting:

That's an interesting little thing Hilmar. My translation says 'Used' Also, it seems ridiculously cheap if it has a thermostat built inside the unit as that's cheaper than a bare thermostat.  Are they readily available new?
Found these in the US without the by-pass but never seen one for sale here.

In 1960 I was stationed in Germany  I owned a 1950 Mercedes 220 model (as I recall) and it had manual dampers instead of thermostatic again as I recall? It also had a central foot pump activated lubrication system. Machinery was so precise that they used 30 Weight oil instead of the grease we use again "As I recall"  It was a very nice 6 cylinder overhead cam car while most of the Mercedes on the road were 4 cylinder 180 and used diesel as I recall.   I have always loved cars and Frauleins but Frauleins  won back then "as I recall".
