Its a automatic. Anyone know what the tube coming off base of carb to a jar on fire wall is for? Looks to be the same type of setup you would use to run nitrous? Or some sort of vacuum.

Don't really know what the jar is on the firewall with the split lines to the carburetor, but if you held me down and made me guess I would say it is an aftermarket setup for something like Marvel Mystery Oil that would be introduced to the engine in very small amounts as it ran.  The plate the 2 lines feed into was part of the MMO "kit".  Those things were a popular add-on back in those days.

That jar held a mixture alcohol & water that was to give the engine more boost on acceleration. I had one on a 47 Buick convert which turned out to be a waste of money and time. Back in the early 60s I was flying the KC-135A tanker which used water/alcohol and gave each engine more boost which allowed the 135 to carry more fuel on takeoff.   Bill

I had a Water/Alcohol Injection be Edlebrock (Varajection) in my 1937 Chev Hot Rod which allowed me to run the 12.5 to 1 compression L88 engine with pump gas.   Burned 1 gallon of water for every 100 miles travelled.

I could adjust the flow from the dashboard whilst driving if I wanted to.
