Hi!

Can't find a 6v alternator for a 1951 S62.

Any idea where to shop?

In these years it was a generator not a alternator.

6 volt alternators are certainly available but you may be on your own to fabricate a mounting bracket.  Then there is the Genernator also.

A 6v alternator is a bit of an engineering kluge.  For openers an
alternator losses 2V of the coils output in the rectifier diodes.  So
a 12V must produce 14V AC, some loss.  But a 6V must produce
8V AC, that is 1/4 of the energy being burned up.  Then a 6V can
only produce the same current as a 12V, only half the power,
limited by the diode capacity, or go massive diodes.  Put it in a
generator case, lose an alt weight advantage while increasing the
price more than an order of magnitude.  And do not expect to find
a replacement on the road.  Bruce Roe
