Guys thanks for all of your help. I certainly appreciate it. TJ Hopland I decided to investigate the issue you proposed of the ignition switch not being in its expected location. I disconnected the switch from the steering column and operated it by hand. I started the car and let it run until it reached operating temperature. I then turned the switch off by hand and the blower motor immediately stop running! This was the fix. They sale an ignition switch for a tilt wheel and one for without a tilt wheel. I have the tilt wheel. Just in case the switch on my car is for without a tilt wheel, I will purchase the one for a tilt wheel and make sure it is in the correct position on the steering column. This should solve the problem of the switch not being in the correct position. Thanks for your help.

How does the linkage feel?   The 'rack' up behind the key is made from 'pot metal' and can be a little fragile.  This link shows what they look like and is a place you can buy the parts if you end up needing them.

You can grab the end of the rod that engages the switch and feel it in different tilt angles and key positions to make sure there isn't a spot where there is a lot of play in the system.

I can't remember is there a spring in the switch so the rod just has to push and the spring pushes back or does the rod have to push and pull?   I may be confusing it with the highbeam switch on later models which operates similarly but on the other side of the column.

The linkage feels okay. I will keep the information on the rack gears.
Thanks
