The 1939-1940 heads have freeze plug on the end of the heads. The 1938 doesn't. Are they interchangeable?

As far as I know they are interchangeable.  Spark plugs are different.  39 and 40 have the 10mm plugs.  38's have the 14mm plugs.

Brad is totally correct,  the plugs are different and the casting vary but the bolt pattern stayed the same throughout making all interchangeable.

Thank you for the help. It's hard to believe all of  the changes that where made on this engine in three years. The pistons, sparkplugs, generator, pulleys, belts and distributor fuel support bracket. Oh yes the oil filter. Did the lube system have any changes?
Thanks Brad,Steve,Boyd and Pete I'm learning from the masters, Steve Loechner
