In my unbiased opinion, the full sized Lincoln's of 70's and 80's do ride smoother, are quieter, they ride softer more floaty than any Cadillac I've ever driven. Plus I feel like the Lincoln's have less vibrations in its body structure.

Cadillacs, depending on the year, have a floaty nice ride as well, but they always have handled better and feel more planted to the road than most Lincoln's. Build quality also depends on the year, I've always loved the build quality of Cadillacs up until about 1966 or 68. By the 70's, their quality dropped off, but improved by 1977.

Cadillacs are more unique and use Cadillac only parts, while Lincoln's shared a lot of their components with Fords especially starting in the 70's. The 60's suicide door Continentals are wonderful cars.

Both are great brands.

Yes, but Lincolns have a Lincoln badge, whereas Cadillac has a Cadillac badge.

Why would one be comparing Lincolns with Cadillacs when This is a Cadillac, and LaSalle Club.

I know that Henry Leyland went over to Lincoln, and Henry Ford originally ran the pre-Cadillac plant, but that is as far as it goes for us Cadillac aficionados.

I don't suppose the Lincoln Clubs even try to compare their cars to Cadillacs, as they know which are the best, apart for some horrible Cadillacs that were produced, and we all know which ones they were.

Outstanding! I had forgotten about that scene in the movie. Looks like I'll be spending some quality time in front of a monitor this afternoon.

Remember. "Rides like a Cadillac" It's part of the language

There's an old story which I don't recall exactly but something about how a salesman was making a presentation to Lincoln trying to sell his company's products.  At the end he concluded 'these are the Cadillac of gears' and didn't get the contract.

Some may say Cadillac has lost its niche but not in our language and comparisons.

Do you ever hear something of quality identified as 'the Lincoln of ....."?

How the Escalade Out-Maneuvered the Navigator at the Dawn of the SUV Age
(its a tiny url otherwise it makes the screen too wide)

"The Escalade, on the other hand, has done what several generations of super-sedans couldn't do for Cadillac—make the badge relevant again and get younger people into Cadillacs in large numbers. Car and Driver's prediction had come true; the 2002 Escalade really was the cornerstone of the revival of the brand, which in the coming years saw more exciting models like the CTS-V, ATS, and CT5-V join the lineup. Conversely, you could argue that the second-gen Navigator, introduced for 2003, was the opposite. It preceded the general neglect that the Lincoln brand still suffers from."

Hmmm...
I read every issue of the Self-Starter, and the editor himself occasionally mentions Lincolns. He may even write for the Lincoln Club and attend Lincoln meets. I've never found that objectionable; it seems natural for the subject of Lincolns to come up in a club that celebrates Cadillacs. Comparisons are an integral part of the hobby.

I'm no expert on Lincolns and have never owned a Lincoln. But it appears that many CLC members also have a Lincoln or two. I appreciate hearing from them. It would seem that there were at least a few times during the years 1961 through 2011 (Town Car) when Lincoln went head-to-head with Cadillac and sold some very fine cars. Although I don't support extended discussions about Lincolns (or other makes) in a Cadillac Forum, I don't object at all to Lincolns being mentioned in a discussion of various Cadillac models.

I loved the YouTube posting of Cadillac vs. Lincoln by Vince -- the original focus of this thread.

I wasn't going to respond to this thread but since it has come up again, what the heck.
I have and always will be a GM man, but in 1999 I had a lapse in judgement and bought a 1979 Town Car.  It was a one family-owned car until I got it.  It had been well taken care of and well maintained but in my opinion, compared to my Cadillacs, it was a POS.  With that 2-barrel carburetor it couldn't get out of its own way, chrome plated plastic knobs in the interior made it feel cheap for what it was supposed to represent.  I didn't like the ride or the handling and remember, this was a very well taken care of car, the family gave me the receipts for all the work that had been done and all the work was done at the dealership.  I kept it for a year and a half and then got rid of it.  I will stick with the General and Cadillacs.
