wire spoke wheels

what have I got,,,I bought a set of cad spoke wheels for my 51 cad...the wheel will not clear the brake drum...any ideas... Gene Harl  clc22406

it hits on the outer edge of the brake drum...what year did the spoke wheels come out??

thanks for the reply... I though they might be from a 53... they will not work on a 51... I ordered some wheel spacers ...   maybe they will work

The Master Parts Lists shows that the Brake Drum and Hub Assembly (Grp #4.3870) changed in 1952. 1952 to 1956 are the same, but 1950 & 1951 are different.

I believe, but can't verify it, that the brake drums on the 52 were wider than the previous years, thus the problem.

Are these repros or are they original 1953 type wires?  If they're
repros, then I have no idea what they should or could fit.  As John points
out, there where changes made in the size of the brake drums during
that period.

If you know the manufacturer, or if the name is stamped on the
wheel, then you might try contacting them for more info as to fit.

UPDATE,,,,PROBLEM SOLVED,,
   Thanks to John Washburn for giving me the idea.. I bought all the brake ass. from a 56 cad .. which are off set to the 51 ... used the backing plates, drums, and shoes.. my wheels now fit,,, wire wheels with ww tires look great on my 51 cad cdv ...
