Any box from 38 through 48 will fit with possible a little drive shaft difference.    I'm sure Coopers will have one but he seems difficult to get hold off.

Hi,
I have an empty housing, it came with some other parts I got, I was told it was for a '39 LaSalle but don't honestly know much about it, Let me know if you'd be interested or can tell me more about it
Thanks
Michael

Definitely not a 39.  More like a 29, and I only say that because of the rear facing starter. I haven't been under one recently to say whether the rest looks like a 29 or not.

Yes, just as Jim said, much earlier.

Hi,
Thanks, it sounds like it's for a '29, I must have remembered it wrong. Thanks for the info, any idea what it may be worth ? or any other way to positively ID it ?
Thanks Again,
Michael

As with most transmissions its usually the innards that fail so I doubt the casing is worth much unless someone is unfortunate to have a busted one?

There is a difference in the connection between the driveshaft and the transmission, as well as the rear housing on the transmission, between 38-40 transmissions and the 41-53 version.  You could only use a 41-53 transmission on your LaSalle if you switch these parts or modify your driveshaft.
