I guess I'm late to the dance.  just looked and I am down to about 6 PF-24 oil filters. decided to order some more and found out they have been discontinued. I have seen a lot of discussion regarding a good replacement here, but since I thought the PF-24 was going to be there forever I did not pay any attention.  What are you guys using?

Wix 51258/NAPA 1258 is the direct replacement for
the PF24. Wix 51049/NAPA 1049 is a larger full quart
filter that also fits.

I've not tried any of the replacements yet since I still
have PF24's in stock.

I've been using the Wix 51049 on my 63 for many years. It's a good filter.

I recently found that out as well Greg. I got the WIX 51258 as a replacement. The one Mike Josephic mentioned. It says made in Gastonia, North Carolina right on it which makes me feel warm and fuzzy about it. It listed for $16.57 Canadian, but I know the manager at my local auto parts store and bought more than one as well as some Lucas High Zinc Hot Rod and Classic 10W30 so he gave them to me for $9.02 each. Being from Canada that isn't comparing apples to apples, but it is a loose reference point. Hopefully you get a deal on buying a few of them.

WIX 51258 is what Reid's Automotive told me to use, for ever and ever Amen, after they rebuilt my engine.

The PF-24 had a really common thread and gasket size so there are at least a dozen different diameter, length, and micron size filters that will screw on assuming there isn't anything in the way.   Later I will have to look and see if I can find the list I help put together many years ago.   Looks like the 2 most common Wix numbers for Cad motors in Cad cars have been mentioned.

The actual interchange is not as important as the information regarding filtration,, etc. which has been discussed in detail previously. I want to ensure I am going to a good filter.

Wix site is pretty good.   If you have any sort of number to start with you can pull up the specs and see what you are getting.  It doesn't seem to let you auto search similar items so it can take a while but at least if you have some sort of part number to start with that someone said would work you can verify the fit and see what the micron rating is.

The Wix 51049 is rated at 21 microns.  The current A/C professional line is rated at 30 microns. I couldn't find a rating for the PF 24.
The Wix 51258 has the same micron rating of 21 and is the cross fit to the PF24.

I can't remember are microns one of the units where the higher the number the smaller the object is?

It's the opposite TJ -- the smaller the micron rating
means that is the limit for what the filter will capture.
In other words, 20 microns is better than 30.
