Will the stock 41 Cad ignition switch & starter button work safeley with 12 volts? This is in conjuntion with a complete 12 volt conversion. Thanks, Bob

Ivan Zanatta

The ignition switch should be O.K.
If the solenoid is mounted on the starter, the start button will be O.K.
If its a floor- mounted starter switch (like the old FFFords?) it may get a little hot(double the current if your using a 6volt starter). I have done a 12 volt conversion on a silmilar era Chev and no problems.

Considering just the ignition switch, the current on a 12 volt system is hald that for the 6 volt system.

Now for my questions to you: How are you going to make the dash instruments work properly, even if you use resistors?

What are you gonna do about adapting the radio?

How will you deal with 6 Volt heater motors on your new system?

How will you keep from burning up the clock (if you have the original Jaeger clock)?

Will you use a ballast resistor in the ignition coil primary, and a 12 Volt coil?

How were you misled into this foolish idea in the first place?

Dont convert to 12 volts, put the effort into a proper restoration of the 6 volt system, and you will have a reliable system.
