Title: 1969 472 AC Power Wire Location?
Post by: R Simone on April 16, 2024, 09:48:56 PM
My AC was disconnected when I got my 69' DeVille (in fact no plug on the AC Compressor Coil) and now while rebuilding the engine want to take care of the AC as well while it's torn apart.  I ordered all the new components including a new coil connector which is 2-wire so I'm assuming diagram 12-49 in the manual is the one I should be looking at.  (Diagram 12-48 shows a four wire w/ambient sensor, but wanted to ask just in case as it doesn't label the model on the diagrams that I saw)

The ground is easy enough, but if my assumption is correct The power wire is the light blue wire in the lower right corner of the firewall connector cavity "EZ". That wire is there, but it goes off into into a harness and I don't want to start pulling it apart unless I know I'm looking at the correct wire.  Can anyone confirm and/or know where it pops out at?

I know on some other cars it comes up on the drivers side and gets tangled up with the kickdown switch.

As TJ mentions there is a set of wires along the valve cover on the drivers side for the Kickdown switch, coil positive, temperature sensor and AC compressor all wrapped together. That is the one you want to focus on.

Ok thanks guys - I don't remember seeing a light blue wire, but maybe someone cut it back somewhere. I'll look in that bundle and report back/maybe help someone in the future.

The wire is black, not blue. It runs through the harness with the kickdown wire as mentioned above.

Thanks 69" DeVille, that makes sense because I remember seeing a black wire(s) in that bundle, but no blue.  I guess I "ASSumed" Blue because it looks like a Sky Blue Wire in the Lower Right (EZ) port of the bulkhead connector, but maybe I'm 180 off in looking at the connector diagram - I'll have to look closer.

Ya those connector diagrams can get you not knowing which end you are looking at.  I will usually look for empty slots or something else unique to make sure I'm looking at it the right direction.

Closing this one out for future reference.  69 Deville was correct, it was the black wire in the driver's side valve cover wire bundle.  I checked it for continuity with the AC Switch "On" to be sure.  It threw me because it had a spade terminal on it, and the original clutch connector was MIA/Compressor had nothing hooked to it (must have gotten broke at some point).  I looked through my "before" pics and couldn't see the end of the wire was so maybe it was just hidden/taped up.  I purchased a new connector for the AC Clutch with the Compressor.  Thanks everyone
