Title: Brake Fluid DOT
Post by: Jack Urban on May 05, 2005, 03:43:59 PM
Hi Guys
I’m in the process of re-doing my brakes on my 42 Caddy. I was looking at my Shop Manual for information, and it said to use brake fluid Delco # 9.
I can not find a # 9 anywhere. It there a cross reference to a modern type fluid. Can anyone tell me what the DOT # means, and if I can use a more modern type like DOT # 3?

Thanks
Jack

Jack, I dont know when the DOT #s came into play, but, DOT stands for; Department Of Tranpertation (as in US Government)
The #s simply mean that 1,2 were improvements over the first brake fluids, and DOT # 3 is what the car manf. are useing today.
HTH
Good Luck, Jim
