MY!  What a dreamer!  And it is not a Mirage if it was built by Caribou Motors, it is an Eldorado Caribou.

I saw this car on craigslist 2 years ago. It did not sell at 35,000. It was being sold by the original owner that was getting up in age.

One of the most bizarro eBay ads I have ever seen.  Those side mirrors are hideous and not even necessary.  At least it's worth a chuckle and sharing comments on this Buy/Sell but it's sad in a way, that this seller is not held accountable in any way for this horrible auction content, mis-information and style.  There is no substance really, no content which helps explain why the car is special (if it is) and why you would be well intentioned to spend $80,000 on it.  It's like the seller was drunk or stoned and just went nuts on eBay, giving them $50 or so for the insertion fee.  Which explains why eBay is OK with stupid auctions like this one.

I have seen Caribou Motors placed in Chatsworth, CA in the Los Angeles area and in Grover City (WELL north of LA), also Rosemeade, CA (back in LA county) and yet again someplace south of San Francisco.

There is a great deal of misinformation and confusion about the Caribou and the Mirage floating around out there anymore and as we have seen some even call them Caribou Mirages.  There is a site on the internet that claims Gene Winfield designed the Caribou which is false, Winfield designed the Mirage and it was built by Traditional Coachworks --- Lou Scorsch designed the Caribou.  There is a '77 to '84 Caribou Motors brochure on eBay that lists Caribou's address as Rosemeade, CA, so I'll go with that --- not that they couldn't have moved during their history.
So, for me, it boils down to this until better, possibly more accurate information comes along ---

*The CARIBOU was designed by Lou Scorsch and built by Caribou Motors in Rosemeade, CA.

*The MIRAGE was designed by Gene Winfield and built by Traditional Coachworks in Chatsworth, CA.
Both companies were in the general Los Angeles area at least at some point.

It would be a good thing if Tom Hall would chime in on this conversation with some definitive information as I understand he has done more research on these Cadillac pickups and has owned more than one.

This has all been hashed over before but below in Pic. #1 a '73 Cadillac Caribou, used to be mine.
Pic. #2 a Cadillac Mirage, note the rear side window that the Caribou did not have --- easiest way to tell the two apart.

Greg Surfas owns a much more rare Cadillac "Paris" pickup which I look forward to seeing when its restoration is finished.

Always good to chime in with knowledge.  When did Caribou / Mirage conversions start and effectively end?

As far as I know Caribou Motors started business in 1954, a fire destroyed their plant and all records in 1986 or so and they never re-opened.  Traditional Coachworks built Mirages in '75, '76, & '77.  They also built the Cadillac "Castilian Fleetwood Estate Wagon" during that time, one pictured below.
