Was a"472" decal put on the snorkel of the air breather on all models? I see them on some and not on others. My 2  Devilles don't have the  decal. What is correct. Thanks.

I have a 70 Deville and a 70 Eldorado, both low mileage originals.  No 472 decal on either.  Maybe from prior years. The Eldo would have a 500 on it if there was supposed to be a decal.

70 Eldo had a badge on the grille or fender didn't it?   Maybe they figured having it on the outside was enough?   Did the other cars have that too or was that just an Eldo thing?

Only the Eldo had the 8.2 Liter badge.

68 and 69 DeVille's and Eldo's may have had the 427 stickers on the air cleaners.

G'day Brian,

This is another reason I love the '72.

Should it not read 8.2 LITRES (with a "S" for plural)?

Actually, if it is reading as the capacity of the engine, it is correct to write 8.2 Litre, as a unit.

If it is measuring it as a container, then it should read as (holding) 8.2 Litres.

But writing it as Liters is actually worse than describing paint (Colour)as a Color.

So 70-71-72 Eldo has the badges?  They then dropped the practice till the mid 80's?   Had they done it in the past?

Too bad they didn't badge it as 500 cubic inches.

QuoteWhy not 8,193.53 cc ?

I suppose they had to allow for slight wear in the cylinder walls?

I think with all the hoo har about the muscle cars and the insurance problems, Cadillac decided that Metric wouldn't look as bad in the eyes of the do-gooders.

Plus, as the world was starting to measure mechanical stuff in Metric, it was a natural to state engine sizes in Metric.

Hello 1970's guys.  I am new to this whole forum and to restoring.  Used to fix my own cars as a kid, but those days are long gone unless you retro to cars of our youth.  So I found this beautiful 1973 Eldorado that I had to own.  Never could afford one back then, even used...  Needs a little bit of work but that is part of the the fun.  The engine had a blown piston so the 500 is out being re-manufactured.  One other major issue was a rag top which has been replaced.  Now for the cracked dash cover.  I removed it as in the shop manual and, knowing my own limitations, I had a vinyl guy repair it.  But he had to fill in all the vent holes for the temperature control sensor due to severed cracking and a poor previous repair there.  We can make new holes but I just cannot find a good photo online of these small holes.  I think it is in a square pattern, but a close up photo would be of great help.  How many holes and what size?  How big is the square pattern?  I'll make a template first and then we'll make the new holes.  The vinyl guy did a good job but he wan't satisfied with the color match and he will get that right.  But in the meantime it would be great to get these small vent holes made.  Thanks for your help.  Sorry I can't look up the decal on the air breather of my '73 because it is packed away in parts bins in the shop awaiting the engine to return.

Welcome!  Your first post!

Suggest you start a new thread and title it something like need help with the dash of a '73 eldo - need size of the temp control sensor area.

You've come to the right place for your Cadillac.  And we love pics!!

Yes that is correct, the 1970 did not have a "472" decal on the snorkel.  This may be because it does not fit well, as I think 1969 and 1968 Cadillac 472 engines did not have a vacuum actuated snorkel damper like the 1970.
