Title: Tranny fluid, Mercon V question
Post by: Zachary Byron Helm on June 09, 2006, 12:14:03 AM
There was a mixup today changing out some tranny fluid and we accidentally added Dextron 5 to the tranny instead of Dextron 3, is this going to cause a problem? This was during a filter swap, so there will be some D3 left in it. Any info is appreciated.

TH400 in a 472 Caddy in case it matters.

Zachary,

I believe that all Dexron products are backwards compatable, all the way back to the old Type A fluid recommended in the 50s. You should be OK. Ive used the latest Dexron product in my car with no problems at all.

I have been told by many mechanics that Dexron III can be used in anything GM, all the way back to the beginning. Now for something completely expensive: http://www.imakenews.com/lng/e_article000384801.cfm?x=b11,0,w
