Hello just wondering if it's a good idea to have a new gas tank sealed inside before it is installed.
I don't want to go through this again. I have heard pros and cons on this subject.  I've had guys tell me that eventually that plastic coating comes off and creates more problems and help in this matter would. Be greatly appreciated.

Several years ago, I bought a new tank and sending unit for my '49 from Kanter (though it was shipped to me from a firm in Minnisota).  My impression is that it is better built than the original.  Didn't seal it but did spray the exterior with clear anti-rust paint. It hasn't caused any problems whatsoever.

If it is a new tank, why try to apply any re-sealing substance?   Wouldn't this be defeating the reason for purchasing the new tank?

I re-sealed an old tank with the proper product, and followed all the instructions.   After a time, the car began to have fuel delivery problems which turned out to be the sealant coming off the surface, and blocking the pickup tube.   At the time, a replacement tank was not available, and the original tank had surface rust inside it (Arizona Car)

When we pulled the tank to fuel pump line out, it had small bits of rolled-up sealant stuck inside it.   Never again.   A new tank was found to now be available, and was purchased, and all good.
