Sometimes it's the little things...

Something's been bugging me for the 15 years I've owned the CdV, but bigger issues always took precedent, and I just never got around to it...until now.

Yes, I finally replaced the underhood insulation, and its fits and looks great! The old one was sagging and falling apart, especially where it touched the opening 'snorkle' part of my air cleaner, and I wondered if it might not actually be partially resticting the airflow while driving. So...I looked around and found a couple of 'em on eBay. They all look pretty much the same from the pics, but the one I ordered came with the clips (which it turns out I didn't need, my clips were still in great shape and were easily re-used.) And it feels pretty close to the same texture and thickness/density as the original.

So, yeah, I'm happy! Sometimes it's the littest things...

I agree 100%. Quick story. I rebuilt my 429 engine in my 64 Coupe de Ville in 2012. I took 3 months, went through everything slowly. Installed, and fired up, no issues, run good. I was pleased and and happy especially since I put a camera on myself and filmed for our 63/64 Chapter at time of initial fire up. Fast forward one year to the 2013 Boston GN. I judged and remember dinging cars that 1 point for non-work wiper washers. I got home and thought mine has never worked and bought the $20 pump diaphragm kit online, installed, pushed the button and water was squirting out of the nozzle up over the roof! I was GRINNING EAR TO EAR!  That little non working thing had aggravated me since buying the car in 1996. I honestly found more pleasure watching that washer jet work than the rebuilt engine fire up!  So, yes it is often the little things!

My experience is those pumps lose their prime after
a while, and a new pump does not cure them for long.
But prime them and they work again.  Trouble is,
next time you need them, they have lost their prime
again.

My permanent fix was to mount a pump under the tank
where it can never lose its prime, connect to the
same wires that triggered the original pump.
Originality, or Functionality?

Then there is the horn(s).  Seems I about never blow
it, so the contact oxidizes over and it does not
work when I need it.  Almost got caught on that,
before a drivers test the horn was blown.  Actually
I noted that only one of the 2 horns actually blew.

My washer pump diaphragm was physically busted and the replacement 11 years ago is still working.

With the optional 1964 Eldorado Horn, added to my 64 Coupe de Ville Standard 3 Horn set-up, I have 4 horns blasting and will get you out of the way about as fast as the freight train horns. Finding that "896" Eldo on a 1964 SDV Parts car was also a very rewarding day... especially when I got it home, off the car and tested and it blew loud and true. All I had to do was clean it up and install on my 64 CDV.
