Want To Buy - Parts / Battery Hold Down
Last post by Maybellene62 - May 15, 2024, 03:00:18 PM
I'm looking for a battery hold down for my '62 Series Sixty Two Six Window Sedan. The repros have been on back order at places like McVey's forever so I'm hoping maybe someone might have one used or NOS. Thanks in advance!

It would seem there is no point in using feeler gauges to adjust an anchor that is self adjusting. Why they didn't continue with this trend throughout the 50's, who knows - the feeler gauge and manual movement of the pins to get everything right is a real hassle.

Just a tip put an inline fuse or switch to turn power off to the clock. If your battery runs low it could cause damage to the clock. Clockworks suggests doing this so I did and it's been running for ten years.

Thanks Bob This may sound silly but can you describe how i can do tha

Quote from: dn010 on May 15, 2024, 02:31:28 PMI didn't say the brakes themselves were self adjusting, I said the brakes had self adjusting anchors. Again, please see the below procedure from the 1951 supplemental manual:

https://cadillac.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/1951/1951%20Supplement/01-%20Supplement/b_P0033.jpg

Here you can read on the self adjusting anchors from the same manual:

https://cadillac.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/1951/1951%20Supplement/01-%20Supplement/b_P0032.jpg

Reading the above links, it seems the 51 shop manual does not say a "major" brake adjustment is done using a feeler gauge through the slots on the drum along with an adjustment of the anchor pin if necessary.  It describes a major adjustment as merely adjusting the pedal to master cylinder rod gap then releasing the emergency brake cable before adjusting the brakes using the star wheel.
