Hello, I've been asked by the owner of a beautiful 56 Caddy convertible to help get his radio working but his antenna doesn't go up or down so that needs to be addressed first. Any info on what is involved and how hard a job this is going to be will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
W. Taylor

The radio has two power wires one for the radio and a second for the antenna.

First thing, have you checked the antenna fuse?

There are two wires on the top of the radio for the antenna up and down.

Once you confirmed there is power from the fuse up to the radio antenna, the tuning knob can be push or pull to activate the antenna. Test the wires to verify the antenna switch on the radio is functional.

The ground for the antenna motor is via a small ground wire connected at the drive gear housing that connects to the up to the mounting bracket screw. Make sure you have a solid ground connection at these locations.

If all these failed, the problem would be with the motor. You would need to have the mast lower and the antenna tool to remove the mounting nut. The wires and the mounting screw can be access at the rear of the left front fender dust shield.

Good luck..!
