Amsoil has 6 different Diesel oils available. Two have a SM rating and 4 have a SL rating. The HDD 5-30 I use is CI-4+/CF/CF-2/SL rated.

I found the attached document on Shell's site, looks like it is recommended for gas engines.

I really hate to beat this old, dead horse again but I respectfully have to
disagree with you.

If you are driving your classic for limited, occasional use  -- and not towing
trailers and putting on 50,000 miles per year -- you don't need an additive
in my opinion.

Yes, if you hardly drive the car, it won't matter.  I drive my 77 long and hard,
coast to coast, it will see the far side of 300,000 miles, maybe more.  Same
for my tractor and other small engines.  They are all are getting zinc added
to the oil.  I can't tell exactly how important this is, but replacement parts
keep getting harder to find, or come from marginal countries.  Playing it safe
here, as best I can.  Bruce Roe  CLC # 14630

What is a "breather" ?   Is it the same as the crankcase ventilation inlet and outlet in my 1949?
Thanks.

It would be the inlet.

i have experienced the wear in my british stuff, mostly my hard driven mini as it shares  the same oil in gearbox as engine so shear qualities of the zinc are really tested hard
i have had syncro problems and cam issues where i never had them in the 80's and 90's and i really beat the little buggers to death back then,
now taking it much easier i am having issues with the same parts i bought back in the 90's(bought many at same time)
when i started having issues i looked into the oil and found the zddp removed
i have since used a additive and have had much less issue
i coutinue to use it for peace of mind and my pocketbook

Some interesting info as to why substituting diesel grade oil for automotive
use is not a good idea.  Note the references to the differences in the additive
packages of both types and the problems that can result.  Some other info
about low grade replacement parts (camshafts, for example) now on the market is also interesting.
