I got my steering box back from Lares, corp.  It looks like they did a great job.  They told me my universal joint is bad, and I can feel the click in it.
I tried my local auto parts store and they said it is a special size that they don't carry.  He even called a driveline shop and they could not help either.  The size is 2 3/8 width with 1" caps.  Does anyone have any leads on where I could purchase these?

I will have to do some research to see if the joint is the same as on my 40-75.  When I replaced mine, I believe it was a Borg Warner joint.  First I will have to look at the master parts IC to find out if yours are the same as mine, and if so, then try to research back in my records 27 years ago to see if I have the part number.... stay tuned or drop me an email.

Tom,  The 38, 39 & 40 series 75 & 90 steering shaft u joints are all the same.  I looked through my file and the only note I could find was for a Borg Warner P/N 114-1501.  To be safe, I would just take your old joint to a bearing shop or driveline shop and see if they can match it up.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Nobody seems to make anything that old or with non-snap ring caps.  I tried Napa and they called their driveline suppler shop.  I'm going to send some pictures to Brain Joseph at Classics & Exotics tomorrow and see if he can help me with my search.

Thanks for the part number Whit.  I'm not sure if that one is made anymore, but maybe I can find a cross reference.

Would this work?

Use without the snap rings.

Unfortunately no, I might be able to grind it down width wise, but the caps still would not be big enough diameter.  I might have to take mine apart and get it "hard chromed".  But I think I'll live with it for now since I need to get the car back together.

Tom,

I had a chance to go through old receipts and I bought one in 2004.  The part number was Precision 861.
