My generator/water pump belt turned into a big weed wacker. It came apart at 65mph and proceeded to shred all the wires running up both fenders to the headlights and horn. It's only temporary wiring until I get a correct loom so I am not upset. I recrimped and everything is back to working.

Just wondering if it is normal for these wires to be unprotected like that. It would be a disaster if a brand new period wiring loom was destroyed in this fashion.

By the way, I was literally on my way to pick up a new belt. I noticed my belt was having difficulties and ordered a replacement at the first sign of problems.

Yes, the wiring is not protected from this sort of problem, as is if the fan decides to shed a blade, as it did in my brother's '48 Chev at speed.
