Title: 472 or 500 engine needed in Colorado!
Post by: Zachary Byron Helm on April 30, 2008, 05:32:26 PM
I apologize if this is in the incorrect forum but I am in need of a 472 or 500 engine in the Denver area.

Without warning my 472 in my 1971 went out last week and I have one week left until a major car show that I want the car to be at. Any help is appreciated, please email me at incode64@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance -Zachary

Zachary, moved you over to buy/sell forum for proper exposure. Best of luck with your search.

Went out?  Those are pretty tough motors.  Maybe something simple (and common) like the cam gear on the timing chain?  They were plastic and dont hold up well with age and mileage?

Zachary - I did a quick online salvage search and these folks in Craig have a 472 listed:

Ike and Son Transmission
96502 East U.S. 40
Craig, CO 81625
Phone: 1-970-824-6475

I agree with TJH.  Do you know what happened?  Much easier and quicker to change out the timing chain than to do an engine swap, plus with a swap you will be getting an unknown quantity.

Try these guys:

Speedway Auto Wrecking
4394 County Road 12
Dacono, CO 80514
(303) 833-5663

That's about 20 miles due north of Denver.  I was there a few weeks ago and they had a number of 71-76 Caddys, some of which still had their engines.

But I have to agree with the other guys who said that it is really tough to roach a 472 beyond repair and it might be much easier and quicker to fix your old engine.
