Title: Torque
Post by: Cooke on October 10, 2011, 08:07:44 PM

What would the torque be for the exhaust manifold on a 1930 V8? They are 3/8ths bolts so I would guess 35lbs.??

Torque wenches weren't avalible to the repair trade untill the late 1930's. Mechcanics were expected to know how tight every bolt needed to be. That is why torque wrenches became widely accepted very fast. If you know the bolt hardness there are tables that will help you.Warren

I checked with several people with experience with these engines before torquing one. the consenses of opinion was 30#. I used that reading and retorqued after warm up. There are about 500 miles on the engine and no leaks so far. Good Luck,
