Hi,
In reading the owners manual regarding the heater control, it simply states that to increase the heat temperature, lower the left of two levers on the dash. The right lever is for the defroster, and when on, a slight movement of air can be felt near the winsheild.
OK, so on a long trip (50 minutes) I had the left heater control all the way down. The outside temperature was approx 60 degrees.
Once again, I felt air movement near the windsheild, but no heat. Turning off the defroster, I felt no difference in the air temperature inside the car.
I also hear no fan blowing ( compared to modern cars) The heater hoses are in their proper place including the underseat heater lines.
It is my understanding that the control for the heat is thermostaticaly activated.
Any ideas on what may be happening and what should be checked?
Thank you, Richard
If you feel air on your foot( driver) with the lever up( motor off) that is because the vent is open. Push the push/pull knob in to close the vent and the defrost air will be ducted to the windshield. With the pull knob out, air is directed to your foot well. When the motor is activated( lever about half down) air is forced in, even when the car is not moving. Lever fully down opens the ranco valve for fan forced heat in either windshield or foot well. No heat can be a few reasons. Heater core clogged, Maladjusted rod for the defroster... the set screw could have loosened and the lever is not opening the ranco. Have fun as you will need to lay upside down to check it out.
