Title: steering box grease
Post by: Cooke on April 05, 2012, 01:27:26 PM
The manual for the 1930 Cadillac calls for gear grease to top up the steering box, what would be today’s equivalent of gear grease. The chassis lube charts calls for wheel bearing grease and chassis grease in other locations so I assume it is not one those. Any suggestions??

Martin- I used Penrite Steering Box Lube in our 1931 Cadillac when I rebuilt the box in 1992.  I have yet to see any leak out, as it is a very thick lube.  It is available from Restoration Supply Company in Escondido, CA.  Their part number is LUB0009.  It is $15.75 for 1/2 liter of the stuff.  Worth every penny!  Call them at 1-800-306-7008 or www.RestorationStuff.com.  Paul Ayres #5640
