I am looking to buy a '62 6 window Sedan Deville that had the title mis-placed. I was told if I had a bill of sale in Arkansas I could title it as long as it was over 25 yrs old. Is this true, and how do I find out for sure?
Hmm, how about checking with the DMV in the state you are registering the car?
It's not that I haven't thought about that, I was just hoping to find out since the DMV isn't open on the weekends in Arkansas (I know it's not open in any state on the weekends). I'm really trying to find out if it's a waste of time
I live in Arkansas and I can verify that yes you can register a car 25 years or older on a bill of sale only in the state of Arkansas. They won't give you any hassles at your local Revenue Department in registering the car. It does take a few weeks longer to get the title back from the state though, because I believe they do check to make sure everything is legit with the VIN before issuing the title to you. I have registered a 1955 Cadillac(from Kansas) and a 1954 Cadillac(from Georgia) on a bill of sale only and proof of insurance(required even if it is non-running project car) at my local Department of Finance and Administration office. So to answer your question..short answer is yes .

Jeff
Law has changed, now you CANNOT get a title with just a bill of sale on a 25 yr old car....dammit
Must've been a recent change as I have registered a car within the past year or so on a bill of sale only. Guess some dishonest people have messed it up for the honest folks.
