In the Nov/Dec 2012 63/64 Cadillac Chapter Newsletter, I included an updated list of original engine part colors that I had put together from my experience over the years.
I have saved the list as a PDF file and uploaded to our website at this link: http://6364cadillac.ning.com/profiles/blogs/engine-colors?xg_source=activity
I have also attached the document to this post.
Hopefully this will help some of you in your restoration of your 1963 & 1964 390 & 429 engines.
Jason.
Nice looking engine. Thanks for the resource. I hope my 429 looks as good when I'm done with it!
Thanks Andrew. I also included in our last newsletter a related "Engine Painting Tips" section for us "back yard painters" without the benefit of a paint booth that I will soon post as a separate PDF file. Jason.
Simply GORGEOUS! The challenge now will be keeping it looking like that. Always keep an extra can of Cadillac blue handy just in case!
I agree. I get nervous when I get down to less than 1 can of the Bill Hirsch Cadillac Blue paint! In fact since the engine rebuild this past spring, I have already pulled and repainted the valve covers to address some minor scrapes from installing the engine. You can see the repainted valve covers in the other Engine Painting Tips message and attachment I posted last night.
Pray your water pump does not explode on you. It happened to me soon after touching up my engine. The Cadillac blue turns a horrible shade of purple when hot antifreeze hits it! Wasted a lot of time and paint.
