the coupe/convertible guards are different than 4 dr. a bit longer and at the top where they meet the body. i need a pair of good ones. 50, 51. 52, 53 are all slightly different in the design of the leading edge and some have a stainless cover over the potmetal base. any version would be ok. leads appreciated. thanks, john walker seattle, wa, 206 789 6800 jwworkshopataoldotcom
I'm confused. I looked up the part numbers in my book and see only two styles listed; one for 4 door cars and one for 2 door cars and convertibles. #3509218 is for the left side of 1950 to 1952 4-door cars, series 60S, 61 and 62. #3509458 is for the left side of 1953 series 60S, 6219, and 19X.
#1456185 is for the left side of 1950 - 1952 2-door cars and convertibles, series 60S, 61 and 62. #3509174 is for the right side of 1950 - 1952 2-door cars and convertibles, series 60S, 61 and 62. # 3509460 is for the left side of 1953 2-door cars and convertibles, series 60S, 61 and 62.
However, I replaced the original stone guards that were on my 1950 6169 4-door and still have them. The part number on them is #1456097 (left side). So the part I have isn't listed in the same in the book. I don't know what part numbers are on the ones I replaced them with.
The part number on the opposite side stone guard is one digit higher than the part numbers listed above.
I would sell the ones I have if you can use them. Both are slightly damaged. It looks like a rock hit both of them and caused a small half-inch long crack in each. The right one has some scratches or scrapes too. There is some pits in the black painted areas, especially on the right one. They will need to be repaired and re-chromed for use on a show car.

it is indeed very confusing. i have a bunch of 4 dr guards and none fit properly at the top curve and where they butt up to the body at the top. the numbers i got are from an old motors body and frame manual. 1456185 left and 1456186 right. many of my 4dr ones have two or three different numbers on the back.??? you just have to know for sure that they came off a 2dr. i believe the 2dr ones have a straight cut across the top edge and the 4dr ones have a slight scallop cut on the upper leading edge. someone bondo sculpted that area on my '50 61 coupe, so i never had any.
here's a picture of a 4dr piece. notice the leading upper end is cut out in a small scallop where it meets the top part of the door. a 2dr is straight across because the outer fender is separate from the body.
I see your trouble. The stone guards I have, which were removed from a 4-door, look just like the one in your photo. I hope you can find the correct ones. Russ Hobden #1235
any leads? anyone i might contact?
If you go on ebay there is a seller called 1-fair-trader . That's Bob Mooney in CHicago. He's a good guy and a good source for all early 50s bits. He has one one now but seems to have enough contacts to find what you need.
