Title: 1962 seat belts
Post by: nick.stratta on February 26, 2013, 07:28:40 PM
Gents,
I'm looking for a set of seat belts for my 1962 Coupe. Black or better still white to go with a black & white interior. Car is maize.
Thanks, Nick #23023

Hi Nick,
1962 seatbelts might be difficult to find, as they still optional, and I don't think many people ordered them. If you are trying to stay absolutely authentic, you'll have to be patient. Even then, the webbing would be suspect after all of these years.
I might suggest something that I did - Seatbelts were mandatory from 1965/1966 on (IIRC, fronts in '65, rears starting in '66). You might have better luck finding buckles from those years. I found a nice set of '66 buckles - I really like the Cadillac crest - and had them re-webbed by SsnakeOyl:

They sent me samples of their webbing so I could select the closest color. I then sent the buckles and the length that I wanted on each side. They look great. I believe that both CLC and AACA judging allows for safety upgrades like this, with no judging penalty.
