First question is why?  A Chevy 350 is going to struggle to do what the Cadillac 390 did.

I had a 454 and TH400 in my '60 CDV, and when I replaced it with a '61 390, and '60 Hydramatic, it was a far better vehicle.  Both driving and handling.

The 390 had hands down more torque, and it is the torque that moves the car, and combined with the low 1st. gear of the Hydramatic, it really got off the line a lot smoother, and with less effort.

Plus, the added weight of the Cadillac Engine and Trans, like 200 Lbs, really helped the front suspension to work as it was designed to.

I'm not a purist by any means and if there's a better power plant out there for the car then great.  A 350 is simply not the way to go.

Here's a better place to get the info that you seek:

These guys will know exactly what you would need.

I would do something other than a SBC if you can.  It's torque that moves a heavy car, not high revs.

Yes, sometimes one has to use what one has at hand.

And in this case, anything to get the car on the road is better than letting it rust away.

The conversion can be done without destroying any of the originality of the original vehicle, and when the time comes, it can all be put back to "normal" as I found when I did mine.
