Title: 1942 trim parts wanted
Post by: gary griffin on March 16, 2013, 11:18:26 AM

As I have mentioned in my restoration blog restoration of 1942's are problematic. It was a short production year due to the war  and was a big model change year as it was the 40th anniversary of Cadillac and after the war the 1946 model shared very few body and trim parts. Just take a peek in the membership directory and you will see only 57 members with 1942 models. You need to go back to 1927 to find a model year with less club members.

As an example of the degree of difficulty for 42 restoration I spent 2 years finding the unique one year , one model only foot rest and finally found one. 1942 parts are very difficult and I have befriended 3 1942 owners who are interested in bringing their cars back to life but it is a daunting task.

1942 owners treasure their spares and I buy extra parts as they become available. I could write a litany of examples that I have encountered but I will proceed with the post as I know if you have read this far you have at least an understanding of the problem.

The purpose of this post is to request information on locations of 1942 parts. Mechanical parts are not a problem but the body and  trim parts are.

If I can get any help in this area I would appreciate it and I would even be interested in buying a few myself in case of emergencies. We could end up with a few more Northwest members and more 1942's in the club.
