Title: 1936 rectangular dash gauges, glovebox door, whole dash wanted
Post by: johnwalker on October 12, 2013, 06:19:25 PM
sorry, i modified this ad to read 1936. i was misinformed. need a nice set of the rectangular dash gauges, amps, oil, gas, temp, and the surrounding chrome bezels, radio block-off, etc, as well as a glovebox door and knob. maybe a whole dash, to fit 1936. lasalle may be the same but the dash is different. found this picture on google of the gauges and bezels. any leads are appreciated. john walker 206 789 6800 seattle wa.

John, i do not have any parts you want, what series car are you looking for,the glove box door is the same on the lasalle and the 60 series caddy, the bigger series have more chrome strips on them, just something to watch for when buying one. Also the dash chrome from a 60 series is different too,if buying seperate pieces.Sometimes they do come up on ebay, have seen them on there. John, are you sure that is for a 37,the gauges look to be 36 style?do you have the data plate from the firewall, that will tell for sure what it is.The openings in the dash you have look to be to big for the 37 guage pod,it is in one piece,it mounts in a metal package and mounts from the rear, have attached a picture of my own car,it is a 37-60 series, the gauges were wrong,i have the proper Cadillac Clock, with a Lasalle  Speedometer, the difference is in the face, the caddy has a chrome trim, the lasalle has the lines painted. It has since been put to the right way. Here is another picture,it shows better how the chrome trim starts and stops on the face of the dash. Harvey

i was told it was a '37. i believe you are right, as i googled 1936 cad dash. looks like the rectangle gauges would be the same though. better change my wanted ad! there's a 37 4dr convertible on ebay right now that has the same dash panel, but the speedo and clock are plain with no vertical stripes. mystery.

Hello John,
I'm sure the cluster gauge system is the same. I will send you photos tomorrow; and if you want it you can try it and make certain that it fits. I also believe the other instruments are '36.

Hello John, here are two photos of the cluster. I believe they are the same. One of the glass pieces needs to be replaced. They are just individual rectangle pieces of clear glass. All gauges work. You will need to have the two bars re-chromed. They each come off by two screws.

Happy you seem to have found what you are looking for. I thought I should add this for you. A table of the part numbers for your, and other years, gauges.

Hello John, I just looked for the part numbers on each gauge (took them out) as posted by joeceretti and can't find any. So, I don't know if these will work for you or not. I can't make any promises. Let me know if you want to take the chance. It will cost $100 for the unit and guessing $12.00 for shipping. I can send tomorrow (17th) but I'm leaving and won't return until the 30th. You can shop around and let me know after the 30th.
Thank you,
Ty Stinson

Guys, That's a neat little matrix Joe posted. However, it's one year short of what's needed. My MPB shows 36 & 37 different.

Yeah... I guess the MPB is wrong. That's why it shows 2 different part #'s. But what does Cadillac know??  They only built the cars.

I thought you were looking for the gauges for a 37. I retract my suggestion that you buy those. Also, the reason for me posting my neat little matrix.

However, maybe they will fit and maybe you should buy them. Maybe they are the best you will find in the next 10 years. I just don't know.

Perhaps measurements are in order?

As I have both 36 and 37 cars I might be able to shed a little light on this subject. The 36 has a  darker color to the plastic faces, its much brighter in 37 but I have fitted the housing into both cars dash's when I was looking for the best ones for my 37 restoration so I would guess that accounts for the different part numbers so Bob is correct with the numbers, problem is if you use 37 gauge faces you really need the 37 speedo and clock faces to match,  I have had the gauge faces reproduced but the clock and speedo faces are a different matter as they are contoured and not so easy.
